Elliott Macneil

I'm a PhD student at University College London, working on the photoacoustic tomography inverse problem, under the supervision of Marta Betcke and Ben Cox. Outside research I enjoy running and chess. If you're looking for somebody taller, my brother is Guillaume Macneil.

Writing

• Reproducing the Fundamental Chess Endings statistics table using FOSS 2026-05-16 — reproducing and extending Müller and Lamprecht's statistical endgame analysis across ~17 million games, using open-source tools.

Projects

• beamax — a JAX implementation of the fast multiscale Gaussian wavepacket transform and multiscale Gaussian beam method for acoustic simulation.
• chirpy — a Python framework for full-waveform inversion in ultrasound tomography, supporting time- and frequency-domain simulation.
